British Gas is expected to compensate thousands of customers after overstating the amount that they would save if they switched to one of its tariffs.

In the latest allegations of mis-selling to hit the energy industry, British Gas is expected to compensate 4,300 customers around £130 each – landing the firm with a £500,000 bill.

The compensation will be paid out to customers who had signed up to British Gas and Sainsbury’s Energy between 2011 and 2013 according to Sky News. The pair signed a partnership deal in 2011.
